Ett ljus i våra hjärtan

I am very shocked and sad to hear about Lena. She was such a wonderful person.

I worked with Lena at the World Bank Family Network’s Book Project during 2005-2006. We spent a great deal of time packing books, engaging in several social/political discussions and above all celebrating our diverse cultures. I went to the cherry blossom festival in 2006 – my first time, with Lena, Trudy and Doina. We really had a blast and I can still recall many of our conversations. I am happy that I got a chance to spend those wonderful days with Lena and will always remember her kind and gentle persona.

My thoughts are with Lena’s family in this difficult time.

Lenas fight against her cancer ended Novemer 18th. In spite of a difficult last two years with cancer spread to the skeleton and liver and with heavy chemo-therapy treatments, Lena focussed on the positive side of life - not because she denied the illness or the deadly threat - but to recognize joy, friendship and the small glimps of happiness life could offer during the time that was left.

Någon gång på 70-talet diktades det om Lena, det är du som är legenden för oss som kommer sen. Hon var en person att se upp till, inte för speciella prestationer utan snarare för att hon visade en attityd till sina medmänniskor som präglades av omsorg om andra, kärleksfullhet till sina närmaste och empati för de utsatta.
